Ready or not, here May comes!

The frenzied verdance of April has quickly come to an end, and we face an equally active May. We have 3 opportunities on the Iowisota calendar in May:

  • "Spring Family Adventure" on May 10-12; Two-bedroom 2-night B&B style stay for $200-- only 3 suites available. There is a lot of fun stuff going on in the area that weekend, come build your own adventure!

  • Women’s Walk in the Woods on Thursday May 16 from 4:30-6 p.m. is a free once-per-month guided hike for women. The format is informal, so that we can all learn from each other and enjoy a chance to be out together in nature.

  • Fundamentals of Nature Photography workshop on Saturday May 18 from 9-12. Naturalist Gordon Dietzman will teach about the art and technique of nature photography and provide insights into processing photos using Adobe Lightroom. Cost is $30.

Find out more about these opportunities on the Events page of the website.

The Early Spring Wildflowers and Foraging session last Saturday followed the recipe for success: enthusiastic and knowledgeable teacher (Thanks Chelsea!), engaged learners, and an ideal setting. Nature cooperated in grand form and provided lots of sunshine on a freshly washed landscape full of beauty and a huge variety of edible plants. We hiked, learned, cooked, and tasted. Great fun!

In between events and event planning, we continue to make progress in completing the house and yard at Iowisota; there are shrubs and gardens to plant during May. The task of managing invasive species on site is perpetual. The promise of morels keeps luring me into the woods, and instead I return with armloads of pulled garlic mustard! The familiar birds of summer are all coming back: orioles, warblers, swallows, wrens, bluebirds, grosbeaks, and so many more. The woods are a cacophony of bird song right now!

We continue to welcome guests and friends to Iowisota, for events and just for fun. We hope to see you here soon!
