Happy New Year! We’re two weeks into it, and the barrage of life continues. There is so much that is always new around here, so I’m going to devote this blog to sharing some of what’s new in Iowisota:
Effective January 1, 2024, Iowisota LLC is an active business in the State of Iowa. We still have a lot to do to get operational, but this is a big step.
Snow is new here. Lots of snow. Until January 8, we had no snow on the ground. Zero snow gave us an opportunity to cut and deliver some extra firewood for a friend. Good thing we did it when we did, because in the last 5 days we’ve had 2 major snow events that left us with around a foot of fluffy snow. It is beautiful and fresh, and a lot of work! We have our driveways plowed, but we will always have a lot of shovel work to do after the plow does the main push. The bird feeders have been a frenzy of activity, with at least a dozen different species of birds vying for the free food.
The house is continuing to have new changes as we finish up details. We moved a bunkbed from the cabin down to the house and put a futon in the cabin bunkroom. The upstairs kitchen cupboards are now installed, and a countertop has been ordered. Meanwhile, we continue to work on storage solutions for our living space… shelving, hooks, etc. With the kitchen pieces out of the garage, we were able to pull the car inside before the snow. It is all progress. Maybe we will be able to unpack boxes of books and hang artwork soon.
The next two weeks should include business planning and consideration of event scheduling, so perhaps we’ll have some updates on that next time!
