About the speaker/guest expert: Gordon Dietzman’s life has centered around the conservation of wildlife. He grew up enjoying the wild on a dairy farm in the Driftless Area of southwestern Wisconsin, then graduated from UW-Green Bay with an emphasis in environmental interpretation. Professional life included over a decade of work on education efforts at the International Crane Foundation near Baraboo, WI, and nearly 12 years of nature interpretation at the NPS Mississippi National River and Recreation Area. At the NPS, he interpreted the fascinating natural and human history of the Mississippi River in the field and in the park's two visitor centers. Gordon has photographed nature for 40 years throughout North America and Southeast Asia, and in his own backyard.
About your hosts: Linda and Dennis Haugen both recently retired from careers as forest health specialists with the US Forest Service. Linda grew up on the Iowisota property, moving here with her parents in 1968. Dennis and Linda built the new residence/retreat center and moved back to northeast Iowa in 2023. They have a wealth of knowledge about natural resources in general, and about the Iowisota property specifically.
